Learn more The Birmingham VA Medical Center located in Southside downtown Birmingham, Alabama is actively seeking a board certified or board eligible Staff Radiologist with special training in Neuroradiology and Nuclear medicine. Current experience, up-to-date procedure skills as well as excellent diagnostic clinical skills are required. The full-time radiologist will provide patient care in the hospital setting to inpatients and outpatients and should be comfortable administering treatment and interpreting examinations in general radiology, Neuroradiology, and nuclear medicine. This radiologist will supervise and interpret general diagnostic radiology, diagnostic Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and MR Angiography, computed tomography (CT) and CT angiograms, and diagnostic ultrasound. This Radiologist will also evaluate and perform fluoroscopic diagnostic exams and perform and interpret minimally invasive diagnostic radiological procedures such as core or fine needle biopsies of chest, abdomen, spine and musculoskeletal organs or lesions, needle biopsies of head and neck lesions. This radiologist should have special training and experience in Neuroradiology and will provide Neuroradiology subspecialty level interpretations of MRI and CT examinations of the spine, neck, skull base, temporal bone including middle and inner ear, sinuses including post-operative examinations, pituitary, temporal lobe and general brain, and CT and MRI angiography of the neck, skull base and brain. This radiologist should be experienced in and will perform and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic lumbar punctures and myelograms and CT myelograms. This radiologist should also have special training and experience in nuclear medicine and will be able to provide interpretations of all areas of general nuclear medicine examinations as well as cardiac nuclear medicine, and Positron emission tomography with CT (PET-CT). The candidate must review imaging requests in all of these areas for appropriateness and provide appropriate protocols to and oversight of radiology technologists and resident physicians in all of these areas and modalities. There is currently no Pediatric imaging. Candidate should have training and experience in radiation safety, radiation physics, biological effects of radiation and radiation injury prevention. We are affiliated with the University of Alabama in Birmingham and teaching of medical students and residents is an integral part of the position, active participant in resident noon lectures, morning reports, including case presentations and other educational activities is required. Applicant should have current resident teaching experience. Candidate must be eligible for teaching appointment at the academic affiliate in order to be considered; some research experience preferred. Our department boasts state of the art imaging equipment in every area. The candidate should be comfortable with a fully integrated PAC system and voice recognition system. Position also includes coordinating patient care by effective communication with Primary Care practitioners at local and remote locations. The incumbent will be highly visible and accessible to all customers. The incumbent will perform the duties of this position in addition to other responsibilities as developed or agreed upon. Candidate must have or obtain BLS or ACLS certi?cation. On-call rotation is required. General call duties are shared by the group.
